My way back started the same way the day before ended. Rain! Back to San Jose it’s just 200km, not so far. I already accepted to become very very wet. I hoped it will ease of when I left the coast, my plan was to visit another Vulcan and the National Monument Guayabo.

Yeah, a few kilometer west, the rain stopped and I had an awesome ride thru the mountain. Looking for the monument. The only not so nice thing is, trucks, trucks. They’re always in font of you. The first 40km not one! But then ….

always this slow trucks
always this slow trucks

…. no chance to pass them without to take some risk. This one make the mistake and left a lot of space on the right ….

…. I did it, passed on the right. Be sure, it’s not typical for me. But in this case a good opportunity. I followed the sign to the National Monument, in the cities there is no sign. For Costa Rica is a relative god map for the navi, so I followed the instruction …. not always, there is some inaccuracy with one way streets, watch out! Ups, what’s this ….

…. ok, looks like I have to look for a way around. Follow your instinct. Turn right, go straight, then turn left and the direction should be right ….

On some point, I missed a sign to the monument …. damn, this is already the way to the Vulcan. What the heck, go there, just 14km and the road looks good …. so far ….

…. I reached the base, the nice officer told me the rest of the road isn’t in real good shape, actualy it’s closed. I can go on food, 6km! I decided to turn around, I would make it forth and back in maybe three hour …. close to darkness. So I decided to search again for the monument, it should be just a few kilometer away. Turned around and ….

…. I thought, something is wrong, there was just a whole bunch of people ahead of me, after a few steps, nothing to here and no tracks on the ground …. damn, 20 min. later I finished a whole round in the Jungle, thru all the mud. Holy moly, you can get lost so quick! Finally, I found the way and enjoyed what I was seeing. It reminds me on some monuments I have seen in France.

The remaining 60 km I made in around four hours. The last 20 km in 3 hour, then the last in San Jose …. in one and a half …. Friday afternoon!
