What an awesome Saturday!(I know, it’s already Sunday night)! It started with a sweet breakfast and I moved on after I stayed two days in Guerrero Negro. My goal for today, Santa Rosalita, on the other side of the Baja, on the Golfo de California. Now I ended up in the middle of the mountain.

How comes? Easy peasy, after 100 boring straight kilometers, I passed a sign, a colored! sign. I just saw as a blink of something colored. „What is this? There where some colors?“, I asked myself.

I turned around to inspect it a bit closer. Wow, ancient cave paintings! Only 36km and it looks like a nice paved road. Why not, it’s Saturday and time for some cultural education. What a great ride. After a few kilometer the road becomes a winding road into the mountain.

It needs only a few minutes from sea level to almost 1200m.

 

Almost no traffic, just let it roll. I have to stop, again and again, just incredible views and surprisingly some colors after all the relative gray dessert days.

And even more flowers!

Holy sh.., what’s this? Oh not again, the nice paved road ends all of the sudden. Damn! I’m full loaded with all my luggage! Should I? I decided, at least I should try, it looks not too bad and it is only 6 to 7 km left.

How can I say it …. let’s say it this way, it was the toughest „road“ I did so far. Several time I thought, „No no, not more!“

In this moment I wish I had a bigger bike, no luggage and somemore off-road (gravel is pille palle!) experiences.

On the end I arrived! A few minor dents in the boxes and I guess some new marks on the motor protection plate…. All together, I just need 45min …. with photo stops! I’m so proud of me. When I arrived at the Cueva de Raton, there was a gate, there was a fence and of course it was locked.

But this time I read the signs very carefully and figured out it’s just a few kilometer up the road into the village to buy a ticket and get a tour guide.

First I arrived at a Hostel. I was a bit skeptically but like always …. let’s say like mostly I stepped in. Yeah, something to eat, something to drink and the necessary information to get a tour to the Cueva de Raton. All what I needed for now. Very fast I decided to call it a day.

I should give my knees some rest, I’m not used to ride upright for so long and in this condition. Apropos condition, the usual temperature update …. approx. 35.

„Go up into the center of village, it’s just one kilometer up hill and ask for Senor Enrice. He will give you a permit and advice also organize guide for the tour.“ Something like this I interpreted, I wont call it translated. OK, just go up and ask. LoL, who I can ask? the donkey ….

…. I found (on the end it wasn’t even a donkey, „Senore, un cavallo!“ a nino bonito told me.

I strolled around in the village for some times till I found a Senorita. She guided me the way to Senor Enrices house.

I waited a few minutes, Senor Enrice arrived and I bought my tickets and my guide arrived even earlier, he was already there.

The guide Senor Francisco told me how we will meet there. He will take me there on foot. „On foot?“ I asked to make sure I got it ride. „Si Senor.“ OK, I drove my moto back to the hostel, grab a bottle of water and vamos …. holy, at 35 degree and it wasn’t around the corner. Maybe 2-3km? or something like this (today I figured out, just 1.5km). Senor Francisco waited already. What?, already there? Damn, I’m so slow. Anyhow, he open the gate and there it is, all the drawings or paintings.

Where?

My eyes need a few minutes to get used to the shadow but slowly the raton (it isn’t even a raton, it is a puma), the shaman, the other animals showed up.

Like at the picture, you have to open your eyes, maybe you can call it a bit faded, but if I think about it, several centuries old and still there. If I take a look at the color from my Red Lady, I don’t think it will last this long. So no complains about the saturation of the colors.

At the end …. an awesome day! If I make it back tomorrow, even an awesome experience …. what I said, it is already an awesome adventure, looking forward to tomorrow!
